We want to serve our users better

We are committed to protecting the interests of both students and tutors on our platform to create a vibrant ecosystem. We appreciate you for consenting your trust with us through patronizing the products and services that we offer. As such, we have implemented user satisfaction policies to ensure that your needs are being taken care of while using our platform, and to address any issues you may face throughout your experience with Cudy.

We outline below our user satisfaction policies on:

  1. Quality of content and educators
  2. Safety of users

Quality of content and educators

Cudy is an open marketplace that provides the opportunity for tutors (freelancers, full-time or employed) to teach and utilize our products and services to conduct and grow their virtual class business on our platform. Cudy provides the agency and the tools for students of all ages to make informed decisions as well as the opportunity to have trial classes with their preferred tutors on the platform before making a personal commitment and payment to the tutor.

Cudy provides the information and tools needed to aid students in their decision making before making purchase. Quality education is subjective to each student as every individual has different preferences for what is suitable for them (e.g. some students might prefer content quality over price, vice versa). Hence, Cudy provides filters and recommendations for our users based on what they would prefer or what the Cudy platform thinks they might prefer based on their usage patterns. The open marketplace system is subjected to the economics of a free marketplace, with forces of demand and supply regulating the different quality and types of tutors, hence providing a variety of choices for all types of students.

We are committed to guaranteeing that each student finds a suitable tutor, hence our trial system remains available for all students to approach different educators and learn of their teaching styles to find out their compatibility before making a personal commitment and purchase.

As such, Cudy regulates the platform and its content for the concerns mentioned below (mostly about security and safety of the users on our platform).

Safety of our users

Our business involves the interaction of two or more parties for trade of goods and services to take place, in the form of educational content using the Internet. The medium of this trade occurs on the Internet, through our platform. As such, there are a few systemic challenges that will concern any Internet businesses. The three main challenges are addressed below:

1. Identity fraud

One of the main causes of cyberbullying is the issue of posting content anonymously, hence knowing that the receiving end of the ill-intended act (e.g. insults, harassment, dissing, trolling and catfishing) is unable to identify the real identity of the user behind the act. As such, this provides a lower barrier and lower risk for them to conduct such acts.

Cudy has made sure that every user is registered and has passed basic identification checks before being granted access to  all communication tools that allows user-to-user interaction. The identifiable elements of each user will be transparent to other users while sensitive user information will still be maintained private and confidential so that users will be deterred from conducting acts of cyberbullying on our platform.

2. Inappropriate content

Closely linked to the issue on anonymous interactions is traceability., Traceability is perhaps the main reason why most ill-intended activities on the Internet exist. At Cudy, we have controls and systems in place to enable our administrators with user access to trace the source of the act of cyberbullying and hence will take appropriate action on the perpetrators without exposing the source or identities of victims or witnesses who made the reports, in order to protect victims from further acts of cyberbullying.

3. Cyberbullying

Our commitment to making Cudy a safe and conducive environment for learning of all ages indicates that we take Cyberbullying very seriously. We take seriously the concerns of the effects of cyberbullying, which includes: anxiety, depression and even suicide in extreme cases (http://www.bullyingstatistics.org/). As the nature of being an Internet business makes Cudy even more susceptible to acts of cyberbullying, we have identified and created solutions to address the major causes of cyberbullying to protect users on our platform. The identified main causes of cyberbullying on online platform services are:

Creating a safe and conducive environment for learning of all ages cannot come without punitive consequences for users who misuse the platform for ill-intended activities such as cyberbullying. As such, the Cudy administrators will be taking appropriate and immediate action on all cases of cyberbullying and these consequences range from user warnings to usage bans (e.g. account ban and IP ban). We will not hesitate to forgo business with a minority of ill-intended users for the benefit of the majority of well-intended users on our platform.

All users on our platform are subjected to the terms and conditions of using our platform when they have successfully registered for an account. This allows us to govern proper use of our platform and outline a few of the measures that would be taken on users who misuses the Cudy platform.

Being an Internet business that has a marketplace and platform model, our goal is to gather as many users on our platform. As such, issues associated with social proofing will arise in large groups of individuals in the community. Social proofing is a type of psychological and social phenomenon where people assume the actions of others in an attempt to reflect correct behavior in a given situation. This gives rise to certain issues such as fake news, collective cyberbullying, cyber-activists, polar support for the side for and against acts of cyberbullying activities.

Our products and services are designed to minimize triggers that can cause cyberbullying and to control the severity of such ill-intended acts on our platform. For example, filters are implemented on our chat functions. Groups of participants are also limited from connecting to a class or accessing communication channels intended for subscribers of a particular class. User contact information such as emails and contact numbers are also kept private and confidential.. These steps will reduce the frequency and severity of cyberbullying cases on our platform.
